As theatre makers who are firmly rooted in society and who work with all the people living here we think it’s important to give everyone a voice. This way of working knows no borders and spreads itself to other places in the world almost automatically. Today in Morocco, tomorrow in Turin, then in Serbia and next to the United States, as everywhere people like to perform, enjoy their lives and make a contribution.
In March 2015, artistic co-leader and actor Sebo Bakker, neighbourhood actor Mahmoud Ibrahim and theatre maker Daan Bosch went to cultural centre DAR Amsterdam in Larache in Morocco. ZID has collaborated with DAR Amsterdam on a number of occasions. The trip’s aim was to meet the young people and coaches there and to transfer and exchange theatre knowledge. After our visit, the local coaches made a start on the production of From the World’s Rooftops on Tour, a theatre production performed by ZID in the Netherlands and in Belgrade (Serbia) in 2014. During subsequent visits to Morocco the production was further developed. The wonderful end result of From the World’s Rooftops on Tour featuring the Moroccan young people and children was presented in Larache in October 2015.
Following this, Sebo Bakker – driving force behind ZID – went to Tangiers for a presentation on Sunday 22 November. The children were wonderful, the audience enthusiastic and everyone joined in: politicians, the Moroccan ambassador, local businesses, official guests, children from poor neighbourhoods, actors and visitors.
